What to Expect

Ottawa Chinatown is in the west of the downtown core, running along Somerset St  to the area of Hintonburg.  The area's most notable feature is the Ottawa Chinatown Arch, a Chinese northern-royal style with nine distinguished golden roofs covered and glazed tiles.

Ottawa Chinatown has an incredibly diverse demographic,  popular amongst newcomers due to the pockets of non-Canadian culture concentrated in the neighbourhoods. There are families living here, as well as young professionals and students. This is due to its proximity to the downtown core, as well as the bus routes which lead to the Universities.

The area hosts many events including the annual month long Chinatown Remixed which features visual art, sculpture and performances presented in unconventional spaces such as restaurants, medical offices, hair salons, grocery stores and alleyways. Also the Night Market which features some of Ottawa's best food vendors.
