Oakwood-Vaughan, more recently known as Oakwood Village is a streetcar community located in the York region. With borders on Dufferin and Winnett, in between Eglinton and St. Clair this is a residential community with plenty of commercial access. This neighborhood encases several other smaller communities. It is connected to the old Corso Italia in the southeast and little Jamaica in the northwest. There are two newer outlets of the Toronto Public Library that are easily accessible to the residents of the neighborhood. The Oakwood Village and Maria A. Shchuka Public libraries were built in 1997 and 2003 respectively. There are a selection of public schools and a few parkettes. The best outdoor recreation is at Fairbank Memorial Park which has an outdoor pool, and is otherwise easily accessible in the adjacent neighborhood at Cedarvale Park. Demographics

It also has a seniors recreation program for the many citizens in this age group to keep them active and connected to the community. The outdoor pool is a highlight in the summer months. As are the green space and the children’s playground. There are also excellent public schools servicing the community. For shopping, you’ll be able to stay local for daily groceries but you’ll need to go outside of the neighborhood to stock up at the supermarket. You can find mostly independent retailers for clothing and conveniences. The restaurants are casual and family friendly. There is a diverse selection of cuisine from Thai to Caribbean and many places in between. There are also plenty of coffee shops, pizza places and some quick service chains. For more selections in clothing and upscale services, the St. Clair streetcar links to the subway for downtown access. This will also be the route for alternative nightlife choices, live music and events. The interior streets of the community are quiet and lined with mid size, single detached houses. The apartment buildings in the area are older, established units, lining the outer streets.

Proximity: It’s great to have peaceful streets to come home to in Oakwood-Vaughan and just as great to be able to get into downtown so easily. The Eglinton subway line will only increase the proximity factor. Keep your car. You can use the TTC for those trips into downtown but for everyday life in this area you’ll be able to keep your car, move easily through the streets and find outlets for auto services.
